New Programme Stops Start up

I had just downloaded a anti spyware programme from a reputable website,(to
windows home xp) but when I clicked on install programme the computer shuts
down then runs scandisk then re-starts, then the programme trys to launch
itself and it all crashes again.
I have tried to start in safe mode but am unable to.
I have previously made back up discs as the computer had xp preinstalled.
Can I use these?

Its called Securepoint personal firewall and VPN client from download.com

What happens if you disable Securepoint? And of course have the XP Firewall
running.
