new profile

I have applied sp4 on a couple of win2k machines that had
sp2. Once a user is logged onto this machine a new user
profile is created and saved as an .USR profile. The new
profile is used instead of the original .PDS profile. I
uninstalled SP4 and deleted the .USR profile and now I am
back to way I was before installing sp4. I am surprised I
can't find anything about this new profile been created.
Has anybody had this issue? Does anybody have a resolution?

Yes.
But even if I make the profile on the machine local, the
profile is still changed on the Server.
