New Profile with current pst file

Hi,

Hope someone can explain where I am going wrong on this. I am using Outlook
2003 and have duplicate Personal Folders in my folder list as a result of a
corrupted profile; I know that I need to create a new profile and delete the
old one to resolve this. I have created a new profile but all my folders are
empty as I cannot seem to get my new profile to look at my current
outlook.pst file. Each new profile I create generates a new data file -
outlook1.pst, outlook2.pst etc. When I go through Control Panel/Mail/Show
Profiles/Properties/Data Files I only seem to get the option to add a new
data file not point the profile at my existing outlook.pst file.

TIA

Just use the new data file then open your old PST and copy the items to the
new PST using drag and drop.

Bill, thanks for replying - unfortunately I don't understand what you mean;
when you say "..then open your old PST and copy the items.." where do I open
the old PST? Should I open Outlook in my new profile then use
File/Open/Open/Outlook Data File to open my current outlook.pst file? If I do
this I get a duplicate set of Personal Folders and Outlook tells me the
folders are special items and can't be dragged into the empty folders in my
new profile.

You open your *old* PST file using File/Open/Open/Outlook Data File . It
should be in the same folder as the new empty one you start Outlook with but
possibly hidden. You drag and drop the *items* in the folders - not the
folders themselves. You might need a list view for your Calendar to be able
to select Calendar items. Close the old PST when you finish. There are other
alternatives but I'd continue with this one since you are along the line
with it a bit.

With Outlook closed, open Control Panel's Mail applet. Click Show Profiles.
Select your profile. Click Properties, then E-mail Accounts>Next. At the
bottom left, if the delivery location is not your original PST, click New
Outlook Data File>OK. Browse to your existing PST, select it, and click OK.
Make sure the delivery location drop-down selects the old PST. Click
Finish.
