New Processor for a KG7-RAID

It has been some time since I have kept up on hardware specs in
general, since the last processor I bought was a 1GHz Thunderbird
(which I am still running right now). I was just wondering if you
could tell me what would be a good buy at this point in time, for an
upgrade from this processor to put in my KG7-RAID, and what
modifications, if any, I would need to make to the board and the
processor to get them to work correctly, as the highest rating the
BIOS allows is "13 and above." Sorry for being a newb, but I would
just like a little peace of mind in knowing exactly what I need to do
and if it will work before spending the money to upgrade, as I don’t
have much for making mistakes. Thank you for your time if you reply to

I was thinking a 2600 Barton might be good, but I’m not sure if the
board can support it, and wondered if there was anything that might be
even better at this point for the performance/money, and if it would
work with the board, since the board officially supports only 2000
thoroughbred

With a 133MHz FSB, best CPU will be XP2400. You will have to look on
Ebay or similar, as they are not in production now. You may be able to
update BIOS to recognise XP2400, or you can set the rquired values manually
in the SOFTMENU page of the BIOS. Best to update the BIOS because there may
be other problems with older BIOS.
