New problem with Front Page

I have not updated my website since the beginning of
August. I tried to update it yesterday (September 29th)
and received this message, "Server error: Cannot open
file "mother_lode.htm" for writing. Insufficient disk
space".

I saw the part about insufficient disk space and checked
my disk space and discovered that this is not a true
statement. I have written an email to my web host and he
says I have not met the limit on the size of my website.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my Front Page? I
have uninstalled front page and reinstalled it. I have
added the new windows updates and office updates and it
still occurs. I removed the mother lode page and then it
said the same error message but with "mother.lnk" in it
for writing. What is going on with this?

Please help.

You host need to run a check on the extensions and to check their server for generate server space
for temp files.

On you system, empty the recycle bin, the Windows Temp folder and delete the FP temp folder, and
then search for *.web files and delete.

I again emptied recycle bin, emptied windows temp file and
emptied front page temp folder. I also found two *.web
files and deleted those.

I am still getting the same error message.

Any suggestions? Thanks for the previous help by the way.

Has your host run a check on the extensions for your account and/or checked the permissions?

Is "mother_lode.htm" file actually contained within your local copy of the web, since you indicated
a error message referencing "mother.lnk" which is a short-cut to the file outside of your local web?

When I contacted my host, he said that there was no
problem with the amount of server space I had. I am able
to install permissions or uninstall them if I want. They
are installed on my control panel.

I removed anything to do with mother lode including
the .lnk which I found by accident.

The problem is that front page or whatever is not allowing
me to make a new page on my website. I can update a page,
meaning I can add information or change information on an
existing page - it seems with no problem but to add a
whole new page does not seem to be working.

I can't find reference to 'mother' anywhere in your code.

I'd try...Open Web on your local machine...create the page over again, only this time name it something else other than mother_lode. Save. Recalculate Hyperlinks, the Re-Publish to your host server. See what happens.

Btw...that's one heck of a lonnnnngggg home page - you might want to cut it up into smaller pages with navigation to each page...people generally will not scroll down that far.

I don't know how to recalculate hyperlinks but I'll learn
really fast.

I know I have a long main page. I don't know how to do
that. All this is hard coded even though I have front
page. I don't know how to put up a background either.
Did you notice that it was a white background as opposed
to the typical "scary" background? I don't know how to do
that but also find that it lets me stand out a bit
compared to others.

Thanks.

It was white as I recall...not scary white either :-)

Why are you hardcoding when you can just use FP to create new pages?

Work/design on your local machine then Publish up to server (if you have FP extensions on server - sorry cant remember if it did or not).

You should break up that long page into several smaller pages...maybe by topic...or whatever you want. Then create navigation buttons to the new pages.

Create New Page...go back to your index page and Copy what you want to move to your new page...go to the new page...paste it...etc.

Save your pages.

Publish to server.

FP will keep track of your hyperlinks automatically unless you've messed them up 'manually' in which case you do a Recalculate Hyperlinks before you Publish. Sometimes I just do it for 'luck'

Rob

oh yeah...to do a bg, you right click on the page in Normal View (sometimes called Design view) select Page Properties you'll see a Background tab. Avoid complex backgrounds..or weird colors which make the page hard to read.
