New phone w/ Windows Mobile... BCM'able?

I purchased a new phone, with WM5.0. It says nothing about being a
smartphone - I'm not sure how to tell if it is as I can't find reference to
Smart Phone anywhere..

I recall reading somewhere that I can use a mobile version of BCM on WM -
that if it is a WM5.0 device, I need to use a beta version.

Can someone clarify this for me - I've been digging around on MS' site all
morning and not coming up with anything solid. At present I can't sync my
bcm contacts with my phone --- its kinda making traveling business
difficult.

Windows Mobile 5.0
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14955.2.3.0)

PC:
Outlook Version 2003 sp2
BCM 2.00.5324.00

There are currently 2 versions of WM 5.0. One is for a device that MS calls
a "Smartphone version." This type of device is navigated by buttons only
with no touchscreen capability. The other is for a device that MS calls a
"Pocket PC Phone version." This type of device is navigated by both buttons
and also has a touch screen that allows you to use a stylus or your finger to
navigate.

If you reply with a post naming what brand name of device you have I can tell
you whether it is a "Smartphone" or a "Pocket PC Phone."

You can also check out this website at: www.chapura.com. They have some
excellent options for WM 5.0 that will work with your BCM very well.

Thanks -- my phone is a Cingular 3125 and is navigated via buttons only;
looking on the microsoft site it is WM5.0 for Smartphone. I take it this is
not good. Especially since finally installing it (BCMV3PPC.exe) and then
trying to run it from my PPC it just hangs for a while and nothing happens.
Argh!

With the onset of pdas being integrated with phones, I would have hoped (not
expected) that Microsoft support this trend with their OSs. In the mean
time, I have no way of getting my bcm contacts over to my phone. right?
After spending a whole day migrating everything over to BCM, I'm now
wondering if I made a huge mistake... I'm on the road and need to be able
to call my customers - my goal was to be able to sync with my pda / phone.

I just returned my old phone which had a touch screen and wm -- but the user
interface for a phone was terrible, imo. Microsoft just does not know how
to build mobile computer interfaces (again, imo) - but then, I've been
writing software for small devices for 15 years.... i digress...

Am I out of luck?? I'll check out chapura too.

Well, I'm only running the trial version of PocketMirror Professional 2.1.6
but I have to admit, I'm becomming impressed!! Thanks for the lead!
