if i turn on the xp firewall and log my pc on to the web
for the first time will i get the balster virus?

No you will not, but you still need to goto Windows Update and get the
patchs.
 
If you have the XP firewall enabled before you connect to the internet for
the first time, the Blaster worm won't be able to infect your computer. You
should, however, still apply all the available Critical patches to your
computer as soon as possible.
