new P4P800, need new RAM

Hi,

Just finishing up on a new PC box with the (standard) P4P800 MB, with
3GHz Intel (retail-box), and FX 5900se video.

Pretty sure I want to go with twin 512mb sticks of DDR-400 (PC-3200)
or better, for multi-threading benefit.

From what I've read, mutli-threading is not a 'raw' speed-issue,
although it will handle/distribute ram requests more efficiently. Is
this correct?

I want to purchase 2 sticks with matching serial numbers, I've seen
what mixed ram can do (yikes!).

I'll probably get PC-3200 (cas 2.5) Corsair ram at pricewatch, or
something else, if anyone has a good recommendation for the P4P800
motherboard. Is buffered/unbuffered (or ECC/non-ECC) an issue
anymore?

Also, is there any reason to go better than PC-3200? PC-4000 is not
much more expensive than PC3200, and perhaps works better overclocking
CPU and/or video?

Everything is working out well, I just need some help on the ram
update.

Thank you.

I'm running the ASUS recommended: Corsair PC-3500. Very stable, 2.6
Ghz, overclocked to 3.0 Ghz.

Thanks (much!) for posting.

Btw, I'll order the typical 'twin-pack' of ram (two 512mb sticks),
for multi-threading.

Is this the (unbuffered) ram you're recommending, at the link below?

Or same thing here?

Wish they sold them in a twin-pack, it might be a bit cheaper?

I'm new to multi-threading ram, is the ram above showing prices per 1
stick of 512mb, 'cause I'll need 2 sticks.

Ram finally showed up, two 512mb sticks of Corsair, just like yours.
Excellent ram.

Simple questions (I think?).

How do I know hyperthreading is working? Merely 'Enable
Hyperthreading' in BIOS setting?

Ram sure seems very fast, yet doesn't state that it's running at
DDR-400 speed, at least during boot-up. Boot-up says, "1024mb Okay".

Btw if I set (BIOS) 'Turbo-mode', to 'Auto', on bootup it states,
"DDR-266Mhz duel-channel linear mode', which doesn't sound right.
If set to "Turbo" or "Standard", it shows the same "1024mb Okay"
message on bootup.

Just want to make sure it's running duel-channel DDR-400 speed.

Download CPU-Z and look in the memory section. That will tell you your
memory speed, etc, and whether you're in dual mode or not.
Look in your device manager under processors, and you should see 2
P4's sitting there....

Ok thanks. I'll get the util file, and see two P4 icons (used to be
SM-Bus) in Device Manager, after updating the chipset from intel's
website.

I tried CPU-Z. Under "Memory", it doesn't display memory speed or
duel-mode info. Any idea why?

It does list memory frequency and CAS/RAS, etc.

Pretty sure I'm using the lastest version (1.20a).
