new MS keyboard - all F-keys remapped?

I'm using a new Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 4000 on Windows XP SP2 with
the latest versions of IntelliPoint & IntelliType.
This set includes:
- Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 and
- Wireless Comfort Keyboard 4000

The problem is, many of the "F" keys don't function as expected - and
toggling "F-Lock" does not help.

EX:
F2 - this key used to allow me to rename objects, no more - and there isn't
even a choice for that command listed under "Reassign a key" in the
IntelliType app
F3 - this key used to open the Search Companion in Windows Explorer, no
more - and there isn't even a choice for that command listed under "Reassign
a key" in the IntelliType app
Alt+F4 - used to close the active window, this doesn't work anymore either

There are more, but these are the main ones I can't live without.

Can anyone tell me how to correct this?

found a solution - sort of...
Microsoft Keyboards - F Lock Eliminator - Reprogramming Intellitype Pro
Method.
http://jtsang.mvps.org/usb_intellitype.html

I was able to remap all F-keys back to standard, or rather "expected"
behavior using the Commands.XML file, that is all but one.
I'm used to using F3 to "Find Next", particularly when browsing the
registry, and so far this seems to be the only key that still doesn't woark
as expected...

You need to hit the F Lock key, so that the F indicator LED on the
receiver is on.
Then you'll get the 'old' behaviour of the keys (i.e. the normal function
key operations)

Like I said, the F-Lock function does NOT help...
