New Motherboard

Hi, I've re-installed WindowsXP Pro 3 times. The last time I had to call to activate. No problem. Now I want to change my motherboard from an intel D850GB to an Intel D850EMV2. At the same time I'm going from 512mb Rdram to 1gig Rdram. I'm also changing my processor (the whole reason for the motherboard change) from a 1.6Ghz to a 2.8Ghz. What is going to happen when I make this change? I suppose it will be too different and WindowsXP will balk? Am I actually going to have to re-install it again? I'd like nothing more than to be able to keep my C drive intact. Please advise. Thanks!

You will need to do a repair install. This will install necessary drivers
and retail files and folders. Jym

Greetings --

Normally, and assuming a retail license (many OEM licenses are not
transferable to a new motherboard), unless your motherboard is
virtually identical (same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS
version, etc.) to the one on which the other WinXP installation was
originally performed, you'll need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place
upgrade) installation, at the very least:

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will also require re-activation. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most
likely be able to activate via the internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
