New Message, Hyperlinks are disabled

We are using Outlook 2003, HTML format, Outlook as editor.
When I enter Hyperlinks to the new message, Outlook shows them as hyperlink,
but they are not active (Can't click on them). Once sent, the recipient
receives the message with active hyperlinks.

Can the hyperlinks be activated in the new message modus? I'd like to check
the links before I send them out...
