I have just purchased a new PC3200 400mhz 1gb stick of memory, but when I try
and reboot I get the following message.....

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
cause. To fix the problem:
1. insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your....

file: \windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
status 0xc0000017
info: windows failed to load because the kernel is missing or corrupt. "

I am stuck here, any suggestions?

Yeah, take the memory back and get the correct specification for the PC :)
Thats usually caused by
1: Unmatched Dual Channel Pairs
2: Out of spec memory
3: 1GB per slot, on a chip set that dont support it
