Intel D865GVHZ MB (onboard video, lan, audio)
Windows XP V2002 SP2
82865G graphics controller driver version - 6.13.10.3510

I installed a new copy of WinXP SP2 and I can log in and it's set to 640/480
and 8 bit, 60HZ. If I try to change this up to 32 bit the screen goes black.
After installing the graphics drivers, if I reboot the computer, on startup
the screen will go black. I have to boot from last known good..
I've tried different drivers, reinstalling windows, repairing windows,
installing different drivers in every different order and almost everything
and now am pretty sure it's something to do with SP2...It will only let me
see the screen in VGA mode..
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

You need to open the motherboard BIOS and make
sure your onboard video adapter is properly enabled.
Also, make sure you are installing the correct video
adapter drivers from the Intel support web site.

I have done that and the onboard chip is enabled in the bios. I have tried
the video adapters from the Intel install cd, the latest ones off their
website, and another version from a different website that were made for the
extreme graphics 2 video chip..

So I just read one report of prescot processors not working with SP2 and I
have a Celeron D 3.06. . . Although the computer works fine in VGA mode which
suggests it may not be the processor..and more likely something to do with
the video card.. I may go back to sp1 or something to see if this fixes the
problem..

I just realized that Safe mode with networking allows me to have a higher
resolution (but I can't change the resolution or refresh rate)
There doesn'tt seem to be an option for internal vid card in the bios, only
AGP/PCI, AGP aperature size and frame buffer... I've tried all options and
lowered the agp aperature size but I don't think that would affect anything..
