new mail message and options are greyed out cannnot use

most of my options in microsoft office outlook 2003 are greyed out i cant
send emails, as the new mail message is also greyed out as are the options
ive tried the detect and repair option didnt fix anything anyone any ideas
please

thanks for the reply, yes it was activated when i bought the computer it was
okay on the 19th of this month jve downloaded some updates from microsoft
could that have caused the problem
