New Mail Desktop Alert failure

Hello fellow members :)

My computer is running Windows XP Home Edition and Office 2003 Students and
Teachers Edition. My computer is NOT connected to any network.

I have had Office 2003 installed for one year now and I have never seen the
"New Mail Desktop Alert" before. I have set it to solid and to last for 15
seconds. So if it was going to appear I should be able to see it.

As far as I know the Outlook inbox is my default inbox. In Outlook's
options I have selected to make Outlook the default e-mail program.

I have selected "Briefly change the mouse cursor" but the mouse cursor does
not briefly change either.

However, a sound does play and an envelope does apper in the notification
area of the Taskbar when a new e-mail arrives.

All Windows and Office updates are installed.

MY QUESTIONS:

Does my computer still think that Outlook Express is my default e-mail
prgram? I only have 2 e-mail programs installed. Office Outlook 2003 and
Outlook Express 6.

How can I get the "New Mail Desktop Alert" to apper when a new e-mail
arrives as it should do?

I have Norton Internet Secruity Professional 2004 installed. Could it be
interferring with the proccess when it scans incomming e-mails for viruses?

I am always grateful for any help and advice I receive from you guys!!

Cheers,
Techno Phobe.

Thank you for your reply Diane. :)

Yes, I have Norton Internet Secruity Professional 2004 installed and its
script blocking is turned on.

No, Outlook 2003 is NOT running at full screen. I have its window set to
maximize.

I look forward to your reply.

Cheers,
Techno Phobe.

Disable email scanning and script blocking - you can try one at a time to
see which is causing problems, but it very safe to disable outbound scanning
regardless.
