I have just purchased MS Office (Student and Teacher Edition 2003) and am
about to install it.
I have on my computer already Word and Outlook Express running.

Q: Do I uninstall (via add/remove programs) Word?
Do I need also to unistall Outlook? If so, how?
(Do I worry just too much) and shall I install MS Office over existing
applications?

Your knowlegable advice is greatly appreciated.

You should install over existing, the install will determine what products
you have installed and upgrade them.

Where outlook express is concerned, installing office will upgrade your
email client to outlook but it wont remove outlook express.

Thanx Andy,
Leaves only the question of - how to unistall "Outlook Express" after
(hopefully successful) export of address book,folders..etc.

Thanx in advance

Outlook Express cannot be uninstalled from Windows XP.
It is integrated within the operating system.

As I said 'Outlook Express is upgraded and not removed', sorry I took for
granted that you knew that OE is an intergrated part of XP, so as Carey
states Outlook Express cannot be removed.

Uninstalling Outlook Express 6.x
a.. Click Start, then Settings, and then Control Panel.

b.. Open the Add/Remove Programs control panel.

c.. Select the Windows Setup tab.

d.. Untick the Outlook Express check box and click Next.

e.. Click Finish.

f.. Restart your computer
Uninstalling Outlook Express 5.0x
a.. Click Start, then Settings, and then Control Panel.

b.. Open the Add/Remove Programs control panel.

c.. Select Outlook Express 5, and click Add/Remove.

d.. Click Yes to verify the removal of Outlook Express.

e.. Click Yes to restart your computer. If you are not prompted to restart
your computer then restart your computer manually.

Just read Norm's post, true it can be removed but once apon a time you could
not remove it, I think the ability to remove Outlook Express was added in due
to Microsoft's access and defaults changes.

Well done Norm for pointing that out.

Read the fine print. Those steps *won't* remove Outlook Express; they
will remove the OE shortcut from the start menu. OE is designed as an
integral part of the OS and cannot actually be removed.

Installing Office will not upgrade Outlook Express. Outlook and Outlook
Express are TWO (2) different products. Outlook will take over as the default
email client but you can always change it back to Outlook Express.
