new install of W2000 over W98 help

i can't install (new install) Windows 2000 on my old W98 computer because
during install i get the error that "setup cannot create the folder:
\WINNT\system32 setup cannot continue until the folder is created" Now I'm
stuck and cannot install W2000... help! I want to totally replace/rewrite my
Windows 98 operating system and start from scratch. What can I do?

If you want to start from scratch then you should allow your
disk to be formatted during the installation process. You will,
of course, lose all files that you haven't backed up.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Be sure to apply these to your new install before connecting to any network.

Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
