New install: domain comp.comp.com to comp.com - Please help!

Kevin

Hello,

I would like to install AD on a new installation of W2K server. When using
the wizard, W2K asks for a NetBIOS and DNS name. When complete, the domain
is [netbiosname].[DNSname.com] or company.company.com. For various reasons,
I would like the domain to be simply 'company.com'. What am I doing
wrong?!?!

Also, if and when this is corrected and Exchange2K is installed, will all
email addresses be user@[netbiosname].[DNSname.com] or user@[DNSname.com]?
I would prefer it to be the latter.

Thank you in advance,

Kevin

kevin,

There a name for your system call netbios name and there
will a name for your domain. both totally different.
So give netbios name as you want at the time of your
system installation.
Then when your promoting your system as domain contrller
just give the FQDN "nwtraders.msft" the again show netbios
domain which compatable for NT based environment.

It like Simple domain name is Nwtraders.- for NT based
environment
FQDN is nwtraders.msft for 2000 environment.

Computer name is totally different.
