New instal missing reqd. .dll file ?

I've installed the new WD beta, only to find it will not start because an
error msg. says "cannot find file MSVCR80.dll - re-installing may correct
this." It doesn't ! Has this file been left out of the 'package' and if so,
why does WD still want it ? Where can I then go to find this file, it does
not list anywhere on microsoft site(s) and will installing this actually fix
the problem ?

Please go to the Windows Defender install folder:

Typically, that would be c:\program files\windows defender

and see if you have this file:

Msascui.exe.manifest

(note that .manifest suffix)

If you find this file, delete or rename it. That should fix the error
message.

I'd love to know more about why the presence of that file causes this error,
but for the moment--that's the fix.
