I am using a Netgear Wireless Router, but both my PC and Laptop are Wired
(netgear DG834G)

I want to be able to network the PC and Laptop fully, file & print sharing,
and be able to connect to the PC from the laptop, and have a RDC (remote
Desktop) to be able to use the programs on the PC from the laptop (which will
become wireless soon) is there anyway to do this. I have reserved the IP
address' on the Router, 0 the PC is 192.168.0.2 and the Laptop is .0.3, the
router being .0.1

James,

Are both computers running XP Pro? If the PC is running XP Pro, you'll be able
to use Windows Remote Desktop; if not, you'll end up with a third party product,
like UltraVNC.

As to file & printer sharing, run the Network Setup Wizard on each computer, and
select
This computer connects to the Internet through another computer on my network or
through a residential gateway.

And since you're using WiFi for your LAN, make sure that it's secure.

And be aware of the physical limitations of WiFi.

Hi

I am using Pro on Laptop, but Home on PC

Thanks

James

OK, James,

If you want to use the PC remotely, with XP Home, you'll need VNC or similar.

Since you have XP Home on the PC, you'll want to enable Guest for network access
on the laptop. Symmetrical access simplifies things.

XP Home on WiFi is not a good idea, since Guest is the only authentication. Be
sure to use all other security precautions that you can.

So ask questions. You've got a number of tasks ahead of you.

hi, chuck

i am now having serious problems, the PC (which has 2 LAN ports) 1 disabled,
has appeared with a network Bridge, and an Internet Connection Icon, in
Network Connections, I do not have that on the Laptop.

Also, The Internet Connection for the PC & the Router with an IP of .0.4 but
it also has the LAN connection with an IP of .0.3

I can ping these from the Laptop, but cannot connect to share the harddrive.

also, do i have to install the Ultra VNC on the PC, as I have downloaded it
to the Laptop.
With the Address of the Computer, that you enter in VNC Viewer, I assume i
enter the IP address of the computer, a colon, then a port number?

i can surf the net on both PC and Laptop, but I cannot see the PC or laptop
from the other? is this something to do with the router?

Thanks

James

Hi JImbo,

Stay calm.

Get rid of the bridge.

Then let's look at "ipconfig /all".
