Here is my setup I have 2 xp pro and 1 XP home 1 dsl internet connection and
1- 8 port switch. Everything is running through the switch I set with
network wizard. Everything was working fine last night. could get to
internet from all 3. One of the pro's has never been on interent and the Xp
home hasn't been on for a while. So they have not been updated. Today on
the Xp pro the internet connection is very very slow and the XP home cannot
find server. It say's there is a connection but it cannot be pinged tried to
repair but says something about IP address, it is set to get an IP
automatically just like the other 2?????? Last night everything was fine.????
any ideas on what happened? My main concern is the XP home network
connection goes in and out. The only one with XP SP 2 is one of the
PRO's????

Are all computers running current antivirus (with updated definitions)?
Do all computers have a software firewall? It sounds to me like you've
picked up some malware. Without more information, it's hard to say.

From the hardware side, have you power-cycled the modem and router? Turn
off the modem and router. Wait around a minute and then turn on the
modem, then the router. Try a different cable; try a different port. If
you connect the computer that has spotty connectivity directly to the
cable modem, is the connection good? This would point to a router that
needs to be replaced. And so on.

Give us a bit more information about what antivirus and anti-spyware
troubleshooting you've done, and try some of the hardware
troubleshooting.

I have had a simular problem so I have do the following:

I go into DOS and use ipconfig to reset the contection. Release and renew.
I also have gone into netorking and confirmed that the machines are
configures for the specific connections on the router.

Good luck.
