I would like to add a new hard drive to my system. It is a WD Caviar 80 Gb
drive. Is there any way to determine, within XP, if my system is ULTRA ATA
capable?

TIA, JAX

Atapi/Ide transfer speeds (Ultra-DMA) are determined by the
Chipset of your motherboard. Most modern/Current boards
support UDMA mode 4 or 5. Your MB manual should list the
highest supported speed(s).

Not from within XP. You really need your motherboard manual. It is the
connection on the motherboard that needs to be UATA compatible. So long as
your motherboard is not too old it should be uata compatible anyway. You are
actually using the same hard drive as I am. My motherboard is 2.5 years old
and the drive works fine.

Thanks All,

The MB is about 2 years old, I guess I'll dig out the book.

Happy Holidays,
