New HD Installation - SLOW W2K PERFORMANCE

Monday my 3yr old Maxtor 40GB HD 7200 rpm w/ 2MB Cache
failed completely. Purchased a new Maxtor 80GB HD 7200
rpm 8MB Cache Ultra ATA/133.

Installed W2K Prof OS, Applications and installed back up
of data.

Now experiencing extremely poor(SLOW)performance! Takes 6-
7 minutes for Start up Boot to complete. Very slow
application performance. Entire system extremely sluggish.

Nothing has changed except the HD, ran great with old HD
and same exact App's.

Please suggest trouble shooting steps, thanks.

Presumably you updated win2K?
Have run a virus scan?
Boots ok in safemode?
