New Hardware Wizard Error

I just installed an HP printer. The printer installed
fine but now the XP New Hardware Wizard keeps poping up
with an error message stating that there was a problem
installing the divice, I click finish, but it just pops
right back up. How can I stop this?

Hi Jay,
You can try the following steps:
(1) First uninstall the printer from the Device Manager
(2) Remove the Printer's Software from the Add or Remove
(3) Shut the computer down completely
(4) Un-plug the Printer's cable from the back of the
computer
(5) Start the computer
(6) Download the Latest Printer's Drivers from the
internet. This website might be of some help to you for
downloading the latest drivers for your HP Printer for
Windows XP:
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

(7) Install the Software(Drivers) for the printer and
shut the computer down completely. (Note: if you have a
USB Printer, you can plug it in just after installing the
software without rebooting.)

(8) After the computer is shutdown completely, plug the
printer's cable to the computer and turn on the computer.
Windows XP will detect the hardware automatically but for
once only.

Jay,

It wouldn't happen to be a Laserjet 3100, would it? I had the same problem
with mine and it was due to only having drivers for Windows 2000 on my
driver CD. I had to purchase a new driver CD from HP, as the drivers for
that model aren't available for download.

I would check HP's site for the most recent drivers.
