I have a new 07 laptop with no hardware hooked up but everytime I start up my
computer it detects new hardware then searches for a printer driver. does not
find it and ends. I always check do not check for this hardware again but it
continues to do this upon start up everytime. Why? How can I stop it from
detecting nothing? When I actually hook up something it detects/installs it
fine but regardless of that it will still open up a detect new hardware
window for nothing. Please help.

Press Winkey-break (or start/run 'sysdm.cpl') ,/Hardware tab

Open the Device manager and click the + sign next to Ports(COM & LPT).
Select the printer port, e.g. ECP Printer Port (LPT1).

Port Settings tab:
Check the 'Enable legacy Plug and Play detection'

HTH :)
