Use BootIt for making a copy of your old HDD. After a copy is made use
BootIt option named "Clear Sig" to clear drive signature used by system
to assign drive letters. If signature is not cleared system may not work
properly after cloning. After that disconnect your old HDD drive for the
time of first booting from new drive. If everything goes well your old
HDD may be connected again.
You'd have to take the drive out of the external case you bought it in..
Set the jumpers to be the primary (or cable select) for your system - format
it and install the OS on it or clone your old drive to it and - away you go.
