I installed a new hard drive (Western Digital 160G) on my computer. I forgot
that I bought the upgrade version of XP (previously had ME) and it wouldn't
load since there was no previous Windows found on the drive. I get an error
that says I can't upgrade since no previous Windows version is found on this
computer. It asks to insert a previous version CD to verify the upgrade. I
don't have a previous CD. I tried using the restore disk, but it didn't
work. I used the Restore disks instead and reinstalled ME. Computer is
working okay. The internet is working. I go to upgrade to XP with my disk
and I get the same error about no version installed on this computer. How is
that so when it is running!!!! Has anyone run into this problem? Any
suggestions?

It COULD Be, repeat the could, that since you had to install ME from what
you're calling the restore disks XP did not recognize this installation of
ME as valid and, therefore refuses to install/upgrade.

If you don't have the ME CD then how was it originally installed?

Not much help to you now but I would have used the WD Lifeguard software,
available on the WD site, to copy everything off of your old drive to your
new drive.

ME came installed on my computer when I bought it. The only thing close that
I have is the restore disk with ME on it.
