New hard Drive is not being registered by My Computer

I run Win XP and have just installed a new Hard Drive on My computer.. The
drive in question is a Maxtor 6Y160P0. It is registered as fully operational
in the Device Manager .

My Main Drive C is listed in My Computer but the new drive is not. How do I
designate the drive?
 
Al, rt click on MyComputer>select Manage>Disk Management. If your
drive shows up there assign a letter to it by rt
clicking.
 
Right click on My Computer and select Manage.

On the following screen, click on Disk Management.

It should show up on the right hand side of the screen. Now you have to
partition it (even if it is going to be a single partition) and then format
it.... then assign it a drive letter. No version of Windows can 'see' an
unformatted drive.
