If you're spending all that dosh I wouldn't skimp on the CPU cooler.

Consider something by Noctua, Zalman or Thermalright.

And what Power Supply & Case are you going to use?

What make and model is the PSU? It’s always good to get a well known make like Corsair, PSU has a big impact on the system stability. In my experience I have always found that cheaper make PSUS die quickly.

quick memory question, i know that the lower CAS a ram chip has the better, so i'm just wondering if this one would be any good for gaming,
CorsairTwinX XMS3 Dominator, DDR3 PC3-14400 (1800) 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 8 (1800MHz at latencies of 8-8-8-24 at 1.8V VDIMM)

Looks good mate,

Would definetly go with the 790i Motherboard, preferably the EVGA if you can find it.

Deffo again for the Corsair 1000 Watt Power Supply, 9800GTX in SLI is good option and you can always add another in.

I wouldn't bother with that CPU though 9450 or 9550 is best option, better models.

2 x 300GB Raptors in RAID and 2 x 1TB for storage.

Have a look at the Akasa Revo or OCZ line of coolers, although the Noctua 12 something is very good as well.

The Corsair 1000W PSU will be fine
2 x 300Gb WD Velicoraptors in RAID 0
Intel Q9550 CPU
EVGA Black Pearl board
Thermalright True Black 120 cooler
CorsairTwinX XMS3 Dominator memory
2x 512MB XFX 9800 GTX+ XT in sli

In my opinion, they're the best parts from what you've asked about so far.

I've just had a three and a half year old Tagan PSU die on me (actually the one I reviewed for this Forum) so I'm obviously a little wary of Tagan PSU's right now. I've also had three Antec PSU's fail on me in the past.

I'll only buy Corsair PSU's now and if push came to shove, OCZ PSU's as well. Oh, and Seasonic, who I believe make the Corsair PSU's anyway.

cool, i just priced it all up on scan to get a rough idea and it's still cheaper than the one i was gonna get from Mesh even if i add 3 gfx cards, the pc shop in town could also build me one to their exact specs for £700 cheaper so should do ok with this build.

All looking good, except for the mouse.

The Logi Revolution is only 800dpi and is not designed for gaming. On top of that lots of people have problems with it.

There isn't really a cordless mouse on the market at the moment suited to gaming, to be honest. Perhaps the Logi MX1100 at 1600dpi may be good but Logitech aren't promoting it as a gaming mouse.

You'd be better off with the corded Logi G5, I have two of them and it's a superb gaming mouse. If you arrange the long cord ok you don't even notice it. The cable's covered in a matt finish friction-less cloth coating so it doesn't snag.

Other options are the Razer range of mice, some people love 'em others, like myself, just can't get on with them or the Microsoft gaming mouse but I honestly don't know anything about that one.

I have the Logi G15 keyboard, it's a goodie :thumb:

hmm would the raptor drives go in Raid 0 and the 1gb drives in RAID1? my current pc is still using the EIDE setup and i know pretty much nothing about the SATA/RAID systems, and also is there much of a failure rate now on RAID? just curious because i hate having to reinstall everything.
