New folder read-only - new XP

I am trying to create a shared folder on a new XP. It defaults to a
read-only folder and will not let me change it. I can clear the check box
but it then reverts back to read-only.

XP ignores the read-only attribute. In fact, I have never found a folder
which did not have the read-only box checked.

If you are having trouble sharing a folder, what you found is not the
problem.

Hi Jim,

There's nothing wrong - I can't find a single folder on my machine that
doesn't have "read only" set.

That was my point. However, reading my post I see that it isn't especially
clear.
