new emails automatically getting reminders

every since i installed outlook 2007 on my laptop i have had reminder issues.
First the contacts all had reminders set to them (in the reminders window it
says follow up) even dismissing them dosnt work. i have to snooze for 2 weeks
every one of them individually just to have them not come up again for 2
weeks. Also whenever i send a new email as soon as it sends i get a reminder
for that email (i cant dismiss these either)
any ideas?
i tried the clear reminders command line.

Are there actually reminders set on the items or is there no trace of a
reminder when analyzing the message or contact item.
