New email notice on desktop

Outlook 2003 has a feature that shows a semi-transparent new email
notification on your desktop. This notification fades away after X number
of seconds. A while back an MSoft MVP posted a registry modification than
was supposed to leave the notification there until the user dismissed it.
Since doing this modification the notification no longer appears on my
desktop at all. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Or at least get it
back to it's original settings? Sorry, I don't know what the modifications
I made were (this was the only time I have attempted a registry
modification).

The new mail notification can be altered by using Rules to always show the
new mail notification. Otherwise, if you use Rules that do not contain this
option, the new mail notification will not show.

Check all of the options in the Rules Wizard to show this option.

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, Bob Newman asked:

I have a rule (it wasn't 1st on the list but I changed that) that simply say
"Display a desktop Alert" whenever any message comes in. That should
suffice shouldn't it? My concern was that the registry tweak may be over
riding the rule. Is there a way to check and make sure that the registry is
as it should be?

It s not a setting that puts it up until dismissed, but it can put it up for
days. See
