OK, I found a kinda match here. I still don't know what the SUBSYS value
is for the computer, so I don't know if this will install or not. There
is no reason for a line for a NEC computer to be in the INF file here.
Dell D600 (Win2K,WinXP)

The POWERMATE VL4 appears to be handled by this support site. I
tried a sample driver here, and it was similar looking to one
I downloaded from a "dodgy site"
http://www.nec-computers.com/support/
This is the one I was looking at. It is a pretty small download,
because there isn't an InstallShield to help the user. This is
an INF style driver, so you can use Device Manager, as instructed
in the accompanying README file. (I use 7ZIP to extract packages
like this, so I can look them over, use notepad on the INF and
have a look and so on. That way, I can judge what is inside without
executing them. That is how I know there is a README.
http://www.7-zip.org/ )
ftp://ftp2.nec-computers.com/NECFIUP06480100/stac97_XP.exe
So use the
http://www.nec-computers.com/support/ and look for
your particular VL4. I expect the machines all use the same
driver, but you can verify that.

If the NEC driver doesn't give you sound, then give the Dell
one a try.
