Hey everybody hows it going.
Ive just formated a Packard Bell computer and i printed the driver list
before wiping the hard drive. Ive succesfully reinstalled all of the drivers
except one - the sound card Driver. Undeder "Sound, Video and Game
controlers" it has got all that was there except for this entry, "Sigmatel
C-Major Audio Driver".

All its got at the moment of corse is Multimedia Audio Controller under the
Unknown list. Ive searched Google for this device and driver guide.com. I
seem to be coming across this driver, Sigmatel Stac97n.exe over and over
again but when executed, rapidly progreeses and says finished - I think its
diong nothing lol. But it doesnt install the driver lol. Is there anyway to
confirm that the sound card is a Sigmatel C-major card, is there anyway to
find out what card is in there, and Is there a place i can get a proper
sigmatel driver from? Nowhere seems to provide this. Thanks heaps for any
responses and feedback =D.
Thanks all
ice

Hey dark rats i tried that driver. I restarted and sed find driver etc
navigated to the extracted folder and it still didnt find correct driver in
that folder... Thats the method i normaly use, even so, theres no executables
in that folder so i doubt thats the right one. howd u get a zip folder with
the contents instead of the executable like normal? Is it an optional thing
on driverguide?

And to Roberto, have tried the packard bell site - they are useless - as i
expected lol. They have no record of the serial of this computer ... as i
expected haha.

Is it possible that previous to the format the wrong driver was installed?
If so is it possible to somehow find out what the sound card actually is?
Thanks heaps to both of you for your quick replies =D
Thanks
Ice

http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?dwn=6925080000;stac97n_via.exe

You will note the _via. It's a different driver from stac97n.exe

There is more than one way to identify a driver. One such way is to use
a system idenification tool such as aida32, which will query the device
for a string built in the chip. It may be different from what you've
been searching on. Another way to do it is to look at the chip itself.

There's also a nifty trick that works with XP, and win2k, what you do
is try to get the driver from windows update. The fact that you don't
actually have a driver installed will not affect this. Fifty fifty odds
in my experience so far.

Have you tried their serial finder ? see this link, hope it helps
http://support.packardbell.com/uk/

now you know why they are refered to as "Packard Hell "

They're no longer sold within the US anymore. For good reason. The
fastest one I've seen here was a "333" cyrix (Cyrix lies, it was only
225 mhz!) People have actually started to see them as collector's items
(shudder).
