new document problem

hi ther;
I do not know what I have done but any time I open a new document in word
the line number is there, I know how to turn it off each time but how to get
rid of it for new document, which I file I have messed? and how to turn it
back to its first situation? Thanks for help

If you are talking about the line numbering that is added with the control
in File | Page Setup, turn it off in a new document, click Default... in the
Page Setup dialog, and answer Yes.
