New Dell PC

Well, my old 6Yr old Dell PC finally gave up the ghost and died after trying to download Win 11 !!!
Have now purchased a new Dell PC and I'm in the process of trying to set it up. However things have moved on in the computing world and the new one is making it difficult to set up the way I had it before. (I'm getting old).
Quick question - is there a free anti virus anyone can recommend. There doesn't appear to be a microsoft one that's come with it this time and they're trying to flog me a McAfee

You don't need an AV with Windows 11. Windows Defender is good enough.

Actually, there is a free version of ESET that can give you a full scan that can take 3 or 4 hours, or more, and it is rather good and that type of full scan is not such a bad idea about once a year. There used to be other companies that would do that style, but recently I went looking for that one-time full scan thing and it seemed the folks offering that had decreased a fair bit.

BUT - - - I fully agree with Peru Bob. Just that some folks new to the Net could make rookie mistakes. And some older folks might also forget what they had learned and make mistakes. Plus the bad folks are getting mighty clever with new style pop-ups at the strangest times.
