I'm a rookie at this newsgroup thing. Hope someone can help me out.
I've heard of many people having this issue but have not heard of a
solution - -
My Dell 2350 is running extremely slow compared to when first purchased. It
is progressively slowing.
Have defragged, did the disk cleanup routine, deleted temp files, cleared
histories, cleared and reset startup programs, maximized power
management - - pretty much everything I know about - - but no improvement.
Is there something else to do

Also, hard drive periodically makes a loud 'groveling' like noise.

Any thoughts?

.

For starters, I suggest you look up "grovel" and find out
what it means.

I also have a Dell 2350 and live in your area(Dublin) I'm far from knowledgable , but Spybot Search & Destroy and AdAware (free downloads) cleared up a BUNCH of performance problems for me by cleaning out spyware. Cleaning out the prefetch file helps a lot too.I also bumped my RAM up to 512MB for a big gain in speed. I also found that the Norton AV that came w/my computer seemed to slow everything down. I now use AVG 6.0 (free). I'm not sure how to give you my email address ,securely , in this forum but if we can figure something out I'd be happy to tell you all I've done to boost performance , w/out clogging up this forum. I'm pretty happy w/the way my 'puter performs now.
