My computer got a virus so after having to repair windows
setup it had wiped my internet connection so having gone
to the make a new connection you go to set up manually the
first 2 boxes (using a dial up modem & the set up a
broadband connection)
so the other thing i have noticed that i might have to try
is go in to the services area and get the services to
manual start but when having tried this i get a error
saying access denied cannot start

any help
thanks

Hi, mark -

This happened to me about three weeks ago. Lost my TCP-
IP stack and almost all my services were set to manual.
For me it wasn't a virus, but a piece of spyware I
removed that hosed my machine.

Here's what I did -

First, I downloaded WinsockXPfix from

http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

and ran it - that repaired my TCP-IP stack when netsh
wouldn't.

Then, I had my wife's PC to compare services and got the
machine running that way - if you don't have another
Windows XP machine available, you can find a list of
default service settings at

http://www.beemerworld.com/tips/servicesxp.htm

Good luck!

This is the usual problem...

You Cannot Create a Network Connection After You Restore Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329441

Fix is to re-install your current level of service pack.
