New computer

I'm about to build my new computer. I have A8V Deluxe v1.02 with (San Diego)
Athlon64 3700+ and 6800GT OC video card. Any problems I can anticipate
before I dive into the build. What's the best memory I should use based on
experience.

Thanks

We are a computer dealer and I have an A8V Deluxe in my system. We
have had good luck with Corsair PC3200 modules.

Samsung PC3200 is pretty good as well. Can hardly compare to alot of
others, but it can be overclocked pretty well

I use the exact same board, AMD processor and Video Card. I use OCZ PC3500
memory. I have been running this setup for almost 4 months now with no
problems at all and I have it OC'd to 2.64Ghz with retail HSF. My system is
shown below. I only wish I had bought this board to begin with since NF3
boards like the MSI Neo 2 Platinum that I used in my original setup a lot of
the time don't play well with 6800 video cards. Of course I didn't find this
out until after I built my system at the end of May and then fighting with
the problem for almost 2 months along with many others with NF3 motherboards
and 6800's. After my switch to the ASUS A8V Deluxe I can now play D3D games
without any problems.

AMD 3700+ San Diego @ 2.64 GHz (240 X 11) Retail HSF
Was an MSI Neo 2 Platinum
Now an ASUS A8V Deluxe Ver. 2 Bios Ver.1014
OS: Win XP Pro/SP2
Antec SmartPower 350W +3.3V/28A +5V/35A +12V/21A
BFG 6800GT OC 370/1000
1 Gig OCZ PC3500 2.5-3-3-7-2T Dual Channel
Maxtor 250 Gig ATA 133/Primary IDE Master
WDC 80 Gig ATA 100/Primary IDE Slave
Seagate 160 Gig SATA Drive, Seagate 300 Gig SATA Drive

Did you make sure you attached the power supply connector to your 6800 GT.
What is new in your new build, just the ASUS A8V Deluxe and the AMD 3700+ or
everything but the memory?

yup!! video card has power, the blue light are on, fans work...I reset the
card too. My video card is a few months old..replacement from BFG...:).
Carried over the hard drive, CD, DVD/cd burner. I have two new 80 gig
drives waiting to be setup as sata after I boot up and get it working.

I do get a voice message "System failed due to CPU over" I have no
post....no beeps. Tried deleted key...cleared cmos...How can I be
overclocked with I never booted???
PS shouldn't be a problem Ultra X-Connect 500 watt, rails rated good. Every
thing worked with my ASUS Socket A board!! Oh...Antec P160 case.

I suspect it's the MB but, could be the CPU...:-(.

Thanks for the help!!

Do you know what version of the BIOS the A8V Deluxe has? (I suppose not, if
you can't get it to boot that far.)

If you check the CPU compatibility list at support.asus.com, you'll see that
a 3700+ requires BIOS 1011 (E4 stepping) or 1015.002 (E6 stepping). The list
claims that all board revisions are supported, which ought to include the
1.02. (Where'd you get that? My A8V Deluxe is 15 months old, but it's rev.
2.0.)

If the BIOS doesn't support the CPU, it may be possible to upgrade the BIOS
by using a single stick of RAM in the B1 slot. (That's the blue slot,
farther from the CPU. See the memory configuration in the manual.)

Good luck.

well my rig is up and running...I should have done a clear XP install. I
know should have known better.. :-\. What's even worse...when I put in the
new hard drives...I have have to setup window XP all over again..:-(
I still can't get both sticks of GEIL pc3200 to work? only one stick. I
guess this MB just doesn't like this ram. I haven't ordered any ram
yet...should I go 4 x 512 or 2 x1ghz?
