new computer w/xp wont start

i just purchased a new emachine with xp, when i started
up the computer it asked to set the date and time, i went
to the next screen and nothing really happened or there
was no place to set the date or time. it asked to save
info, so i did, then the screen that says your computer
was shut down improperly came up, "do you want to start
in safe mode, safe mode networking, safe mode comand
prompt, normal setting, etc". but any choice i make it
does nothing. windows will not start. what the hell is
going on.

Most likely something loose or misconfigured.

Contact the tech support for the company that manufactures the system, or
the place you purchased it from.

If you have to ask if your copy of XP is 32 or 64 bit, it's 32.
