Your PC its OK,
But I Would change Ur Processor to a Minimum 3.2GHz... U can use PENTIUM
IV... Also The VIDEO card to a NVIDIA GEO-FORCE FX 5600 ULTRA or a RADEON
ATI 9800(BETTER)...

Well it all depends on your definition of "runs well". I know people who
complain if they can't get a game to run smoothly at 1600x1200 with
anti-aliasing enabled.

If you're planning on building your own computer vs. buying a system from an
OEM there's no reason not try a new graphics card first and see if the game
runs acceptably for your taste. You can always migrate your new graphics
card to a new computer if the game doesn't run acceptably.

Right now the opinions of the game developers are this:

John Carmack, developer for DOOM3, feels the game runs better on NVidia
hardware. But ATI hardware runs the game pretty well too.

Valve, developers of Half-Life 2, feel the game runs significantly better on
ATI hardware.

Now we come to my opinion - which is just something personal to me and not
an endorsement of Microsoft. If you're planning on buying hardware *right
now* before either game releases, I'd feel more comfortable with an ATI card
because there's very little downside in both games where as NVidia's Geforce
5 line (5200 - 5950) has problems with Half-Life 2. I'd recommend a 256 MB
board because I bet both games will take advantage of the extra memory for
larger texture sizes. Radeon 9800 cards should be coming down in prices in
the next month or two once the X800 Platinum XT reaches wider availability.
Right now the Radeon 9800 Pro is a pretty good deal. It has most of the
performance of a 9800 XT at a much lower price point:

You don't have to have the latest computer parts in order
to play HL2 and Doom 3...or else these games wouldn't
make as much money....the requirements will be decent
enough for gamers to play whether there computer isn't
the latest and greatest. It would be nice to get a nice
computer, 3.2Ghz and a newer or latest graphics card,
preferably a Nvidia or Radeon. You won't be able to get
a Intel chip since you already have an amd chip meaning
you would need to buy a new motherboard in order to get a
P4EE. But, there isn't a need to spend that much money
just to play these games....I would look more into an
awesome graphics card and then a faster CPU....cuz HL2
and Doom 3 look awesome, and looks are dealt with the
graphics card. But 1.7GHz isn't cheap, but isn't the
best....i would try bumping up to atleast 2.5Ghz-
3.0Ghz...and with a very nice graphics card, atleast
128MB, those games should run fine

Download the demos when available and find out. RAM should be fine. Don't
know how fast of a processor the mainboard will support, but if it doesn't
run "fast enough" for you, I'd grab a newer GeForce FX first... depending,
again, on what your mainboard supports.

If you want to go to a 6800, replace your power supply! The 6800 will
require 2 additional internal power connections and that is why you will
need to have a minimum of a 480 watt power supply, just to have a stable
system.
