New Build 614 Freezes on Scans & Cannot Update

S

SeaMaid

PROBLEM #1
It cannot successfully complete a scan, be it a quick scan or intense scan.
It freezes while "scanning for hidden items: variable browser hijacks" and
stops responding. You must use Ctrl-Alt-Del or a utility like Process
Explorer to close the program. Makes no difference if no other apps are
running in the background. When you open Antispyware again, it shows a red X
and that a scan is needed because no scan has been completed yet.

PROBLEM #2
There is a bug in the update feature, as with build 613 it keeps updating
xx25 to xx27. If xx29 is current, it isn't being offered or downloaded.

I'm tempted to go back to my old build, whatever number that was, until
Microsoft straightens this out. Hopefully, they'll do so before July 31 when
that version expires.

P.S. Lowering NOD32 antivirus IMON monitoring from "higher efficiency" to
"higher compatibility" had no effect.

Initially, yes. I updated 509 to 613. That's when I noticed the update
problem where it kept going from xx25 to xx27 over and over again. However,
I did not run a scan with that build.

After following advice here, I uninstalled the upgraded build and did a
clean install of 613. It kept updating from xx25 to xx27. Then MS came out
with 614. I uninstalled 613 and did a clean install of 614. It also kept
updating from xx25 to xx27 and never did offer me xx29 when xx29 came out.

Then I tried my first scan with any of the new builds. It froze and would
not complete. It would not update either. So I uninstalled 614 and installed
509. The update problem does not exist with this build, however, I am still
getting the freezing at the same point during the scan, and I think that
updating, uninstalling, and reinstalling from build to build has corrupted
something in the registry.

I tried disabling certain programs and services & even doing a diagnostic
startup. The program still freezes and will not complete the scan. It keeps
freezing at scanning hidden items (browser hijacks). It's like it runs out
of memory. Maybe I should prepare to do a system restore and see if that
brings me back to before this all started. I am backing up other important
things now, in preparation. However, if you have a suggestion of other
things I can try, let me know because I'd rather not do a restore if there
is a possible workaround.

If I still cannot get Microsoft Antispyware to work, then it must not be
compatible with either NOD32 or Ewido (or the combination of the two),
because those are the only two new things on my system in the last week. (I
did try to install the new build of X-Cleaner but did not install it once
Ad-Watch found that the setup file had malware or a malware false positive.)

Hi

Install again and choose upgrade, the check for updates, 5727 to 5729.
Worked for me.

Have no problem with freezez, tested on 2 PCs, one Pro and one Home.

Scan in safe mode if you have problem with freezing.

Are you running XP Pro or Home ?

I'm getting the same update error, but my scans don't lock up. I attempted
to upgrade my previous version. When that didn't work I uninstalled and
reinstalled it freshly. Still getting update error.

Problem #1: If you are using a hosts file try disabling it
before scanning. That's what I have to do. I am using
Bluetack host.

I did a clean install of 509 and an upgrade install to 613. It seems to be
updating and scanning now. I don't know if I should try updating to 614 or
leave it as it is.
