New board -> Blue screen

I have seen this before and have never found a solution.
Essentially you take a hard drive running W2K and put it
into a new machine (new motherboard) and it boots to a
blue screen -- (STOP XOXOXO INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE...)
Automatic repair utility does nothing and you can't boot
into safe mode. It is probably designed to prevent
cloning and pirating, but what happens when your MX4BS
motherboard blows and they don't make it anymore? I have
heard Microsoft can do some magic by phoning them? TIA.

Do a new installation in a new WINNT folder ie WINNT_2
that way you can keep all your settings and software.

you essentially need to do a repair installation. The existing 2K install
does not have the correct disk controller drivers and/or chipset drivers.

By booting from the CD and choosing to repair and install over the existing
winnt folder, the setup will detect what you have, install and configure the
drivers for your devices, and allow you to boot into your system.

From there, re-apply your favorite SP and Post-SP hotfixes... then update
the MFG drivers for your devices and components.

*presto*

you are back in business.

Try booting off a DOS boot disk and run a:\fdisk/ mbr

This will delete the boot record of the harddrive, I have to do this to my
images for W2K Pro as Gateway changed the MB in some of the systems that are
meant to be the same.
