New appointment triggers Windows installer

When I create a new appointment in Outlook 2003 by any method it triggers the
windows installer for an unrelated software program. I can cancel the
installer and the appointment window opens. Other types of new items do not
trigger this action.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Does it always prompt for the same application? Which one?
Do you let this installation continue or do you cancel it? Let it finish
and/or run a repair on that application. If it persists run a repair on
Office as well.

The software was ArcGIS (geographic information systems). I put the program
installation DVD in the drive instead of cancelling and the issue seems to be
resolved. Thanks!

the installer is damaged. Just let the installer run and it should fix it
for now. Installing another program may cause it to come up again, either in
outlook or in another program.

Do you have an addin installed that interacts with the calendar? That's
probably why it comes up with calendar.

I have the same problem in VIsta with Outlook 2007. Everytime I open an
appointment I get the "windows installer... Preparing to install" box. If I
let it go it takes 30-45 seconds and then brings up the appointment box. If I
cancel the "installation" it still takes the 30- 45 seconds and then brings
up the appontment. If I make two or more appointments within a few minutes
it won't coume up but wait 5 minutes or more and there it is again.

VERY frustrating.

Possibly related. I tried to uninstall some office 2007 products and I was
unable to nor was I able to run the 2007 installer disk.

Any thoughts?
