I've been using Naviscope for years now! I mean this puppy is old. Is there
any freeware ad remover\popup killer programs out there. I have to admit I
really like Naviscope but its so old it will not work with WinXP Sp2. So I'm
trying to figure out just what to do!

A HOSTS file and the Google Toolbar do the trick for me.

Hello,

You don't need to use software to block pop-ups and adverts or redirection
to sites. Just use the many features built into windows such as the HOSTS
file.
It acts as a blacklist and cuts down on the amount of programs you really
need.

But why use Google when Clusty is so much better ?

Clusty will 'cluster' your hits by some category, helping you to avoid
having to plough through 4, 5 or 6 screens to find what you need.

I *love* Clusty.

Have you tried Mozzila or Firefox, they are then next closest thing to
netscape?

("Better"?) Perhaps because he or she didn't know about Clusty? Or because
Google searches yield far more results than Clusty?

The OP was concerned about ads and popups. I recommended the Google
Toolbar for its popup blocker.

Besides, I've never heard of Clusty.

Use the Adblock extension with Firefox.

G'waaan ! ... you just *mentioned* it ! <g>

Give it a try - it does go the extra mile beyond google and
it's always good to have an alternative.. which was the real
aim of my post

I wonder why nobody is mentioning The Proxomitron in this context??

http://www.proxomitron.info/

Though the program is no longer being developed, it's still available, and
still free. It works with any web browser, and is very powerful... It even
blocks Flash ads, which the various browsers have trouble doing by
themselves...

Indeed. Even the "modern" browsers (e.g., Firefox) will benefit.
