Neverending reminder

Hi there,

I am losing my patience with a pop-up from Windows asking me if I want to
view the latest internet service providers. Even when I click on 'NO please
stop reminding me', it continues to pop up every 10 minutes or so and is
highly annoying. Ive tried to find a box to 'uncheck' but no menu seems to
address this annoying popup.

Please help me get rid of it!

Kind regards
Angela

This isn't coming from Vista. AFAIK. This is a computer that came with
Vista preinstalled? If so it has to do with something added by the OEM.
Contact the computer's tech support. Good luck.

As Rock said, it's OEM software, not Vista, that's popping that reminder.

Check the Startup folder (click the Start Orb, click All Programs, scroll
down to the Startup folder and click on it. Try to identify the offending
icon and if identified, delete it.

If there's nothing in the Startup menu that looks like an ISP reminder, you
can check the registry for stuff that starts automatically. Open regedit
(Start Orb, type "regedit" in the search box and hit Enter key) and go to
the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and see if there's a value in there that looks like the ISP reminder. If
yes, highlight the value and delete it. If you're uncomfortable with editing
the registry, you can export the key prior to deleting any values. (You do
that by highlighting the Run key in the left hand window, right click on the
Run folder and select Export. Pay attention to where the file gets saved so
you can find it later, if needed.)

The last place it might be is in services. But check the other two places
first.

Good luck!

Flickett. If you had asked why you always have to enter your name and
password when entering Microsoft's Discussion Groups after clicking "Save My
Address and Password" 1000 times it's the same answer. It's always someone
elses fault. And if you want to read gobbledegook look up OEM (Original
Equipment Manufacturer).
You will discover that nobody is liable for all the problems that fill these
sites.
Do you see Microsoft intervening with fixes?
They allow computer manufacturers to sell their (Microsoft) operating
systems apparently without controls or stipulations.
Nobody is responsible. Therefore your Vista warranty is useless. You're
stuck with it.

I don't quite understand your point. Software installed by the computer
manufacturer (OEM for short) is not a Vista issue, per se. I don't see this
as a fault, just a minor annoyance that the OP can easily rectify. There is
nothing for Microsoft to fix.

As to the password issue, that's an easy fix, don't use the lousy web
interface. Vista comes with Microsoft Mail that's already set up for
newsgroup access under Microsoft Communities. No password needed.

Stuck with it? I don't see where that's the case.

Having a bad day, maybe?
