Networking XP and 2k prooblems

i bought a SMC wireless router recently. I have a laptop
running XP and a desktop, w/a printer, running 2k
(neither with firewalls). The laptop is running off the
wireless internet, and the desktop is ethernet connected
to the router. The internet coming from the router is
working fine on all comp.'s. The problem comes in
networking them together. My goal is to share files and
printers. I have run the network setup wizard on both
comps and set sharing for the printer. Both comps are set
to the same workgroup. From the desktop, I can see and
view files that are on the laptop all the time. But, from
the laptop, I can intermittently see the desktop,and I
can never see the printer. and when i can see the desktop
i click on it and it prompts for a password. i have not
set a password on any comp. Why can't I see the 2k comp
from my laptop all the time? Why does it prompt for a
password? Why can I not see the printer? If you have any
suggestions please help.

they are on the same workgroup, and the guest account is
active on both comps. File/Printer sharing is enabled.

Can you give us the ipconfig/all from all computers?
