Networking with xp pro, 2000 and 98

hi,
I have this problem with my internet. The two comps
with 98 and 2000 can connect to the internet fine. but
whenever i plug in the lan cable into the xp laptop i
immediately lose internet connections on all computers. I
turned off firewall but still happens.
 
sounds like a bad cable or a bad network adapter in the laptop
