networking with broadband

Hello,

I've just taken the leap from dial-up to broadband, from NTL (ADSL) and they
supplied me with a Thomson Speedtouch 330 USB modem. This modem has only one
RJ11 connexion and obviously a USB cable.
I am currently networking two pc's via a 10/100 Mbps switch with ICS.
Will I need to use a router? and how will I connect this, without a port on
the modem?

Ask them to give u an Ethernet modem instead. If they say no, switch
provider.

You don't need to change your configuration just change ICS to ADSL modem
connection. PPPoE one.

You can use Internet Connection Sharing on the computer with the USB modem.
I agree that going with Ethernet (and maybe a router if your provider runs
their modems in bridged mode) is the best way to go. But ICS works just
fine. The only drawback is that the computer sharing the connection must be
on in order for the other computers to have Internet. Setup is real simple:

(If your router's IP address is 192.168.0.x, you'll need to change it so
that it's on another network, i.e. 192.168.1.x, and adjust your DHCP
settings appropriately.)

1) right-click My Network Places
2) select properties
3) right-click your internet connection
4) select propteries
5) select the sharing tab
6) check the boxes for sharing the connection and enabling demand dialing
7) keep hitting "ok" until you get out.

At some point you'll be informed that your LAN connection is being changed
to 192.168.0.1- just let it do it. On your other computers,make sure their
TCP/IP settings are set for automatic, reboot, and you're done.
