networking with a mac

Please could some one tell me if it possible to network a
PC running XP (home edition) & an imac running both OS 9.2
& OS X

I would like to print documents across the network & backup
files, any help would be much appreciated.
 
Unfortunately NO.

Macs need OS 10.2 plus some fixes. All machines need to
belong to same workgroup/domain. SMB is not as
transparent as some would like to believe. File sharing
is doable but on the MACs it seems like only the OS
shared folders are "seeable" by the PC's. The other way
is fine when using XP and you set up folder sharing.

Please read up on SMB.
